On 28 March 2026, Dandan Fei, a partner at Guantao Law Firm's Shenzhen office, joined a legal and business seminar on international expansion by innovation-led Chinese companies. She participated in the panel on intellectual-property protection and data compliance, alongside corporate, academic and legal practitioners.
Intellectual property and data compliance
Fei joined moderator Feng Nianqun and panellists Yi Zaicheng, Chen Zhijie and Li Hongjiang to examine coordinated IP protection, cross-border data compliance and the commercialisation of innovation. The discussion treated these issues as part of a single operating framework spanning research and development, market entry, supply-chain arrangements and ongoing business activity.
For innovation-led businesses, IP and data questions arise well before a product reaches an overseas market. The panel considered how companies can identify risks, establish ownership boundaries and put workable compliance arrangements in place without separating legal analysis from commercial execution.
From market entry to overseas operations
The seminar formed part of the opening programme for Guantao's Zhuhai office. It was jointly hosted by Gree Electric Appliances, the Civil and Commercial Law School of Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai and Guantao, with the Zhuhai office as organiser and Hengqin Deep Co-operation Zone Industrial Promotion Co. as supporting organisation.
Seminar proceedings and the panel on legal risk in overseas expansion
Other sessions addressed ESG requirements, export controls, international arbitration, regional market strategy and cross-border dispute resolution. Taken together, the discussions underscored the need to assess transaction structure, regulatory requirements, intellectual property, data and dispute mechanisms within the same decision process.
